Download and install Step on macOS

How to download Step Browser, open the .dmg, and finish installation on Apple Silicon or Intel Macs.

Step is distributed as a signed and notarized .dmg for macOS. The first install takes about three minutes from clicking the download link to landing on your first Space.

Steps

  1. Reserve your access

    Step is in private beta. Reserve a spot on the download page; you'll get an install link as soon as your wave opens.

  2. Open the install email

    Click the download link in the email we send. The build is around 200 MB and is signed with a Developer ID Apple recognizes.

  3. Open the .dmg

    Double-click the downloaded file. Drag the Step icon onto the Applications shortcut and wait for the copy to finish.

  4. Eject and launch Step

    Eject the .dmg, open Applications, and double-click Step. Confirm the launch if macOS asks. Step opens in your default Space.

  5. Sign in to your favorite sites

    Step is built on Chromium so the experience is familiar. Sign in to the sites you use, or import your data from another browser.
