Fix problems

A page won't load

Diagnose connection errors, DNS failures, and broken pages step by step.

1 min read

Loading errors fall into a few buckets: network down, DNS broken, certificate invalid, or the site itself is offline. Walk through these in order.

Steps

  1. Try another site

Open another known-good site. If nothing loads, your connection is the issue.

  2. Reload without cache

Press ⇧⌘R. Step bypasses the cache for the request.

  3. Check the address

Typos and missing https:// are the most common cause.

  4. Disable extensions

Open an Incognito window (extensions are off). If the page loads there, an extension is interfering.

  5. Try another DNS

macOS network settings → DNS. Switch to 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8 to rule out a broken DNS.
