Step is a Chromium browser, so the Chrome Web Store works directly.

Steps
Open the Chrome Web Store
Visit chromewebstore.google.com in Step.
Pick an extension
Search and pick the extension you want.
Click Add to Step
The button looks like Chrome's. Confirm permissions.
Pin to the toolbar (optional)
Step adds the extension to the bottom tray. Right-click → Pin to bring it up to the visible toolbar.
